MOLAB is a research laboratory focused on the use of mathematics to provide solutions to problems of relevance in oncology.
In the context of the project ISGBM we are developing mathematical models of different types for gliomas accouting specially for the drug resistance mechanisms recently identified. Those models are being used to simulate whole-tumor dynamics of those cancers accounting for complex biological phenomena at the spatial scale observable in high-resolution imaging. Parameter fitting is being performed on human datasets from ~1000 patients available after a previous 10-year project funded by the James S. Mc. Donnell Foundation (USA). Experiments in animal models are under development to refine models, confirm biological hypotheses, identify key processes, and test the predictions posed in the simulations.
The main objective of the project is the use of those validated mathematical models to perform in-silico trial studies and find the best combination scheme for chemoradiotherapy for different types of gliomas. The results will be implemented together with the medical doctors in the project in the form of a clinical trial protocol that will be submitted to the participating hospitals for its implementation by the end of the project.
Candidates are expected to be successful researchers who like to work in an innovative, dynamic and multidisciplinary working environment and want to create successful collaborations with external research and medical partners. They should have a good knowledge of mathematical tools in biomathematics and interest on the applications of mathematics in oncology.
The sucessful applicant will enroll in the last part of this project lasting till november 2024, but opportunities for continuation in the context of other projects are posible.
Candidates are expected to have a PhD in Mathematical Oncology or a related field and a strong research profile in the field.
For more details on the position please send your CV and questions to [email protected]
The position will be open until filled. Incorporation would be within one month of acceptance of the application.
