This presentation outlines a mathematical model of patient transfers within healthcare systems, formulated using SIS-type equations with fixed-time impulses proposed in M.J. Piotrowska, A. Puchalska, and K. Sakowski (Applied Mathematics and Computation, 457, 2023, 128169) were a rigorous analysis of infection dynamics shaped by inter-facility transfer structures is offered. The results challenge common assumptions derived from decoupled systems, showing that pathogen spread can be suppressed even when local transmission rates exceed recovery rates. By examining the interplay between system dynamics and network structure, the study identifies high-risk units and proposes cost-effective strategy to mitigate infection spread. To illustrate the theoretical concepts, a model of hospital-acquired multidrug-resistant bacterial infections is used, based on real patient data from hospital records provided by the German insurance company AOK Lower Saxony.
