Pablo Sanz Galarreta has been awarded a UCLM PhD fellowship to develop a Phd thesis to develop a simulation platform to study the response of patients to CAR-T cell immunotherapies. In these treatments, T cells are extracted and genetically engineered to introduce a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) adapted to recognize specific proteins on the surface of cancer cells. The CAR T cells are cultured, expanded and reinfused, initiating an immune response that leads to the destruction of the cancer cells. This immunotherapy has shown great efficacy in hematological malignancies.
The Phd will focus on the creation of a simulation platform based on mathematical models for lymphomas. To this end, Pablo will take advantage of the previous experience of the MOLAB group in theoretical modeling of CAR T and the data obtained in the context of the MATCART clinical study, coordinated by the Spanish group of hematopoietic transplantation and cellular therapies (GETH).
