UCA Professor Wins Award at ‘Ilustres Anónimas 2026’

The Cádiz Municipal Women's Foundation honors her work in pediatric cancer.

University of Cádiz researcher María Rosa Durán has been recognized in the 2026 edition of the ‘Ilustres Anónimas’ initiative, organized by the Municipal Women’s Foundation of the Cádiz City Council, which highlights women who excel in their professional and social spheres.

María Rosa Durán, a native of Jerez, combines applied research with academic training, providing innovative solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancers.

Durán is a professor in the Department of Mathematics and a researcher at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Biomedical Sciences of Cádiz (INiBICA), which, for the first time, will be led by a fellow native of Jerez, Esther Berrocoso.

María Rosa Durán has also been recognized for her research career focused on the application of mathematical models to the biomedical field, as well as for her role in the “Zero Relapse” project.

This is a pioneering initiative aimed at predicting relapses in pediatric leukemia using advanced predictive tools, integrating research, healthcare translation, and university teaching.

During the gala, held at the Palacio de Congresos, the contributions of figures such as hers were highlighted for their contributions to science and to the society of Cádiz
