Mathematical models of tumor growth and response to therapies
The goal of this project is to use mathematics to obtain results applicable to different branches of oncology. We will use imaging and clinical data from cancer patients, develop mathematical models of tumor growth and response to treatment, validate them and search for optimal therapies. We will do so for the three pathologies under study and for other problems. We will combine ordinary and partial differential equations, image processing, multiscale modeling, numerical and optimization methods.
Why Mathematics?
Mathematical models are used in Science and Engineering to create conceptual frameworks in order to understand Nature and provide solutions to real-world problems. Here we intend to address different problems in the broad field of
mathematical oncology, which aim to lay the groundwork for further application studies.
The Team
The researchers working on this project are MOLAB members Alicia Martínez-González, Julián Pérez-Beteta, David Molina, Víctor M. Pérez-García (PI), and Araceli Henares.
Beyond this project
The methodological advances provided by this project will be used on the different application fields of interest of the MOLAB group. Hopefully, they will lead to proposals to be validated and tested in clinical studies.
