Every year, on the last Friday of September, the European Researchers’ Night (ERN) turns campuses and cities across Europe into spaces where science meets society. Funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe program, the initiative aims to break down barriers between researchers and the public, showing how science shapes our daily lives and inspiring the next generation of scientists.
This year, the Ciudad Real Campus hosted the event, and our team at the Mathematical Oncology Laboratory (MOLAB) was right at the heart of the action. We prepared a series of playful yet thought-provoking activities: a cellular chess game, a target challenge to “hit” cancer cells, a cell classification game, and other interactive experiences designed to bring mathematics and medicine closer to everyone.
The response was fantastic! Children jumped in with enthusiasm, while adults stopped by to ask how mathematics can help fight cancer and improve treatments.
The picture captures the MOLAB members who designed the activities and welcomed visitors throughout the evening. A big thank you to everyone who joined us — together we made science fun, curious, and inspiring!
