Integrative CellOmics for precision medicine in childhood leukemia: A coordinated eHealth action for cancer biodigitization (LEUKODOMICS)

LEUKODOMICS encompasses the development of new CellOmics technologies for pipelining both functional single-cell immunophenotyping and genomic data in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). It integrates regulatory and evolutionary cellular landscapes into multi-omic ALL-profiles and mechanisms that determine the aggressive proliferative and infiltrating nature of malignant leukocytes.

Why Mathematics?

Mathematical tools, based on topological data analysis and multi-dimensional reduction techniques, combined with systems biology approaches, will provide a quantitative and conceptual framework to process the clinical ALL data into a predictive in silico platform.

The Team

LEUKODOMICS is a coordinated project involving over twenty researchers from the following five institutions: the Niño Jesús Hospital, the Research Institute Hospital 12 de Octubre, the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares, the University Francisco de Vitoria, and the University of Castilla-La Mancha (via MOLAB). The MOLAB participants are David G. Aragonés González, Salvador Chulián García, Gabriel F. Calvo (PI), Álvaro Martínez Rubio, Ana del Rosario Niño López, Carmen Ortega Sabater, Hélia Pereira Serrano, and María Rosa Durán.

Impact

As a coordinated eHealth action for cancer biodigitization, LEUKODOMICS will release a precision medicine prototype, named digital twin, encompassing the association between functional cell phenotypes, genetic profiles, and clinical indicators of therapeutic value for pediatric ALL patients. The resulting digital twin platform may give rise to a paradigm change in the clinical care of childhood leukemia.
