“Metabolism, temperature, and hypoxia in cancer: Insights from mathematical models”
The thesis defence of Jesús Bosque Martínez, current PhD student at MOLAB, will take place on Tuesday 13th December 2022. The thesis is entitled "Metabolism, temperature, and hypoxia in cancer: Insights from mathematical models" and was supervised by Gabriel Fernández Calvo and María Cruz Navarro Lérida. The thesis will be evaluated by Philip K. Maini (University of Oxford), Marcello Delitala (Politecnico di Torino) and Ana María Portillo (Universidad de Valladolid).
In his work, the candidate investigated how energy allocation, temperature, and oxygen availability affect cancer. An important part of his work is devoted to the investigation of the macroscopic footprints of cancer metabolism, while other delves into how heat influences its treatment via cell death and improvements in oxygenation.
